Dril-Quip Receives Mechanical Testing Accreditation
10/14/2015
Dril-Quip has applied for and received accreditation from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) for its mechanical testing facilities in Houston, Texas. This accreditation acknowledges Dril-Quip’s capability to perform mechanical testing in-house in accordance with ISO Standard 17025. The A2LA certification is important as it validates the competency of in-house inspection/testing processes and satisfies customer requirements for ISO 17025 accreditation where applicable. The scope of mechanical testing covered by the accreditation includes the Crack Tip Opening Displacement test, Rockwell Hardness check, Tensile Coupon testing and toughness testing via Charpy Impact (CVN).
Dril-Quip invested in the facilities and equipment necessary to perform this testing for three primary benefits. First, the Company can now better control the collection of data necessary to validate material properties which was traditionally done by outside laboratories. Second, in-house testing improves the efficiency of the inspection process in general and shortens the waiting period for test results, thereby reducing overall lead times. Third, we are able to assure our customers that the testing process and results produced meet all requirements. Achieving the A2LA accreditation is another step in the Company’s continuous improvement process.
