Another Malikai Milestone

10/31/2016

Another milestone was reached for the Shell Malikai Tension Leg Platform (TLP) field development when the first of seventeen Dril-Quip top tension riser systems was successfully run and installed on October 16th, 2016. The riser is the latest evolution of Shell's Single Casing Combo top tension riser (SCTTR) design, where the outer riser is used for different phases: drilling, production/water injection and workover operations. This riser design is further enabled by the use of Dril-Quip's ultra slimline version of the SS-15 Rigid Lockdown subsea wellhead. The SCTTR is supported by Dril-Quip’s tensioner system that is designed to cover all three phases of riser configuration without changing any tensioner hardware. The Malikai TLP floating production platform is Malaysia’s first TLP and is located in 1,800 feet (548 meters) of water, approximately 100 kilometers off the coast.

“18 hours after the subsea wellhead was tied back, the rig was ready to drill the next hole section,” said Gerald Bryant, Dril-Quip Project Manager. “Congratulations to the whole team for this successful effort.”.
