Dril-Quip BigBore II Wellhead System used in Record Setting 14” Casing String Weight

10/13/2015

On September 14, 2015, BHP Billiton and the Deepwater Invictus floating drilling vessel successfully ran and set 14” casing with a maximum recorded string weight of 2.13 million lbs. on a well being drilled in Green Canyon. This casing string runs to a depth of 26,628 feet. The string weight represents 85% of the rigs rated capacity. The casing was hung-off inside a Dril-Quip BigBore II subsea wellhead system. It is reported that this is a record hook weight casing load, for this size casing, that has ever been run in the Gulf of Mexico.
