Dril-Quip Receives Arthur Lubinski ASME Award for Best Paper Presented at 2015 OTC
5/11/2015
Jim Kaculi, Dril-Quip Vice President of Engineering, received the Arthur Lubinski Award of Excellence from the Petroleum Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for Outstanding Petroleum Mechanical Engineering Technical Paper at the 2015 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC). The topic of his paper “Next Generation HPHT Subsea Wellhead Systems Design Challenges and Opportunities”. The paper addresses Dril-Quip’s system validation testing on its 15,000 psi HPHT subsea wellhead system and discusses the application of lessons learned from the system validation test results. The knowledge obtained was in-turn used in the development of the next generation 20 ksi 35-inch mandrel wellhead system with superior structural and fatigue performance. With only 25% weight increase compared to a traditional 15ksi system, the new provirtual 35-inch wellhead has doubled the structural capacity and has 10 times more fatigue life. Mr. Kaculi’s award was presented during OTC week at the 2015 ASME Petroleum Division awards program on May 5 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.
