Protecting The Environment
Sustainability To The Core
We believe our technology helps customers reduce operational and environmental risk. At the same time, it empowers them to be efficient, reducing their overall carbon footprint. As the market becomes more focused on the energy transition, we continue to develop these differentiating technologies, aligning our capabilities and dedicating R&D resources.
Synchronizing Innovation With The Needs Of Our Customers
An evolution of a decades-long commitment, our Green By Design™ solutions apply our focus on sustainability across our entire product portfolio, designed to help our customers reach their carbon-reduction targets while lowering their capital and operating expenses.
The Power of e™ — Our Defining Culture
Evolutionary. Exceptional. Efficient and effective. The Power of e™ encapsulates the Dril-Quip philosophy. Since 1981, we’ve engineered exceptional products that have fundamentally changed the way wells are drilled and completed, resulting in efficiencies and cost savings that are, in a word, epic.
When combined, our game-changing e-Series products:
- Significantly reduce hardware
- Eliminate up to two weeks of rig time
- Collectively provide up to 45 million in savings per well
- Lower carbon emissions by reducing manufacturing, transportation and operating days
Designed to drive sustainability, Dril-Quip products are Green By Design.™ They represent a meaningful contribution to UN SDG 7 “Affordable and Clean Energy” goals.
Our Trees Are Greener™
Deliberately engineered to eliminate hardware and materials, reduce installation time and minimize transportation, Our Green By Design™ products help our customers lower their carbon footprint.
Case in point: our revolutionary VXTe™ Vertical Subsea Tree System, which completely rethinks the entire well-completion sequence, saving customers significant time and money while reducing operational and HSE risks in deepwater operations.
Compared to conventional installations, the VXTe™ System:
- Saves millions of dollars per well
- Removes 40 tons of hardware, reducing carbon footprint by 1,000+ metric tons
- Eliminates more than 30,000 HSE touchpoints, improving workplace safety
Goal ZERO: Our Unconditional Commitment To Health And Safety
Dril-Quip's success is built around the health, safety and well-being of our valued employees, stakeholders and the greater global community. Reflecting this commitment, Goal Zero is our global Initiative to ensure a robust and protected work environment. While the program was officially founded in 2019, our focus on HSE has a long history.
In 2021, Goal ZERO made substantial progress, with 42 percent of our training programs focused on safety awareness, and average health, safety and emergency training hours exceeding 20,000. The majority of our direct operations are ISO 14001- and ISO 45001-certified. All ISO Certification audits ended with ZERO major findings.
Five Pillars Of Goal ZERO
Continually improve leadership engagement with aligned objectives across our global operations with a consistent approach.
Reduce operational exposure to risk by implementing one personal HSE objective into each employee’s performance reviews and deploy an HSE Professional Development Program (PDP).
Align policies, standards, processes and training globally to reduce management system documentation and simplify requirements.
Implement the start of an HSE platform to simplify reporting of HSE incidents and observations, improving our overall data management.
Develop an HSE strategy that supports our carbon reduction execution plan in our operations and improves our overall environmental performance.
Since 2015, we have steadily tracked our progress and are pleased to report a year-over-year reduction for almost all incident and fatality rates across several key performance indicators (KPIs).
Reduction in TRIR since 2015
Near-Miss Frequency Rates reduced 78%
Since 2015, we achieved a 72% reduction in the total recordable incident rate (TRIR) and our Near-Miss Frequency Rates (NMFR) are down 78%.
Dril-Quip understands the importance of biodiversity conservation, and we support it by embedding strong business controls to enhance our business execution. We are committed to the highest standards for the health and safety of our employees, customers and contractors, as well as to protecting the environment in the communities in which we operate.
For us, successful implementation requires maintaining the variety of life on earth and keeping the diversity of our ecosystem in balance for future generations. We are committed to sustaining this balance in alignment with the United Nations (UN) Convention on Biological Diversity, as demonstrated in our business execution.
As part of our environmental management process, we perform regular Site Assessments to examine the environmental and ecosystem risks of our operational practices. This includes due diligence and assessments of potential and current sites, focusing on risk mitigation of impacts to the community, land, natural resources, ecosystems and biodiversity. To maintain ISO 14001-certification status, our management program is audited annually by external accredited organizations such as DNV.
Our operations in Ecuador are a representative example of how we operate globally. Here, the Amazon rainforest covers the eastern portion of the country, including six Ecuadorian provinces: Napo, Orellana, Pastaza, Sucumbíos, Morona Santiago and Zamora-Chinchipe. In all operating areas, we work to manage our operations with biodiversity in mind because it helps us minimize any adverse impact our activities have on the environment.
As part of our commitment, we track and measure any type of spill or release from our operations, including those on land or in air or water. Over the past five years, we have recorded no hydrocarbon spills. This success results from enabling and empowering our people to help us eliminate environmental incidents as we work to achieve ZERO incidents.
Driven by policy, Dril-Quip has successfully implemented a system to identify and mitigate our risks in the countries where we operate. To effectively manage our risks, we have obtained API Q1 and Q2, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications for 100% of our major property locations.
The foundation for how we operate, our Environmental Management System (EMS), is centered around ISO 14001 principles and includes practices designed for protecting our planet. Environmental risks are mitigated by incorporating best practices and procedures designed to enhance our global performance. By design, our policies, procedures and engineering control act reasonably to manage our impact on the environment caused by our processes, people, contractors, and suppliers at our worksites.
Our EMS, combined with our skillful workforce, has allowed us to successfully record ZERO industry-recognized spills of 55 gallons or greater over the last five years. This includes our engineered products used offshore, such as our VXTe™ Vertical Subsea Tree System.
Zero Soil Contaminations
By empowering our people, sharing best practices, implementing lessons learned and enhancing controls, we have successfully reduced soil contaminations at our major property locations from nine in 2015 to ZERO in 2020.
Water And Waste Management And Recycling Initiatives
Reducing our waste and promoting recycling is not only good for the environment but also a sound cost-saving business decision. Accordingly, our management system helps us develop annual objectives and targets to achieve these goals.
By measuring our annual performance, we can set clear objectives in an atmosphere of continual improvement. Since 2015, our initiatives have demonstrated compelling progress.

A key part of our quest for environmental stewardship is maintaining regulatory compliance in the countries where we operate. To this end, we track the number of regulatory violations globally and remain transparent in our reporting.
To date, Dril-Quip has had minimal violations, and none have caused disruptions to our business execution. Each violation has been investigated, and preventive actions have been put in place. By collaborating with regulatory agencies in countries around the world, we have improved our process dramatically.
