Goal ZERO Initiative: Our Unconditional Commitment To Health And Safety

Dril-Quip's success is built around the health, safety, and well-being of our valued employees, stakeholders, and the greater global community. Reflecting this commitment, Goal Zero is our global Initiative to ensure a robust and protected work environment. While the program was officially founded in 2019, our focus on HSE has a long history.

In 2022, Goal ZERO made substantial progress, with approximately 45% percent of our training programs focused on safety awareness and average health, safety, and emergency training hours of close to 19,000. The majority of our direct operations are ISO 14001- and ISO 45001-certified. All ISO Certification audits ended with ZERO major findings.

Biodiversity

Dril-Quip understands the importance of biodiversity conservation, and we support it by embedding strong business controls to enhance our business execution. We are committed to the highest standards for the health and safety of our employees, customers, and contractors, as well as to protecting the environment in the communities in which we operate. This year, we have published our first-ever biodiversity policy for our operations, suppliers, and business partners. The purpose of our policy is to protect and conserve biodiversity in the areas where our company operates.

Successful implementation requires maintaining the variety of life on earth and keeping the diversity of our ecosystem in balance for future generations. We are committed to sustaining this balance in alignment with the United Nations (UN) Convention on Biological Diversity, as demonstrated in our business execution.

Our key principles are focused on prevention, mitigation, restoration, and engagement. We will prevent biodiversity loss by using environmentally sound practices and avoiding activities that could harm biodiversity, including minimizing disturbances to the land where the Company builds and operates offices and facilities. We are also developing and implementing biodiversity management plans for our operations, taking corrective action where needed, and training our employees on biodiversity considerations as applicable to our business.

As part of our environmental management process, we perform regular Site Assessments to examine the environmental and ecosystem risks of our operational practices. This includes due diligence and assessments of potential and current sites, focusing on risk mitigation of impacts to the community, land, natural resources, ecosystems, and biodiversity. To maintain ISO 14001-certification status, our management program is audited annually by external accredited organizations such as DNV.

Our operations in Ecuador are a representative example of how we operate globally. Here, the Amazon rainforest covers the eastern portion of the country, including six Ecuadorian provinces: Napo, Orellana, Pastaza, Sucumbíos, Morona Santiago, and Zamora-Chinchipe. In all operating areas, we work to manage our operations with biodiversity in mind because it helps us minimize any adverse impact our activities have on the environment.

As part of our commitment, we track and measure any type of spill or release from our operations, including those on land or in air or water. Over the past eight years, we have recorded no hydrocarbon spills. This success results from enabling and empowering our people to help us eliminate environmental incidents as we work to achieve ZERO incidents.

Environmental Management

Driven by policy, Dril-Quip has successfully implemented a system to identify and mitigate our risks in the countries where we operate.

To effectively manage our risks, we have obtained API Q1 and Q2, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications for 100% of our major property locations.

The foundation for how we operate, our Environmental Management System (EMS), is centered around ISO 14001 principles and includes practices designed for protecting our planet. Environmental risks are mitigated by incorporating best practices and procedures designed to enhance our global performance. By design, our policies, procedures, and engineering control act reasonably to manage our impact on the environment caused by our processes, people, contractors, and suppliers at our worksites.

Zero Spills

Our EMS, combined with our skillful workforce, has allowed us to successfully record ZERO industry-recognized spills of 55 gallons or greater over the last eight years. This includes our engineered products used offshore, such as our VXTe™ Vertical Subsea Tree System.

Zero Soil Contaminations

By empowering our people, sharing best practices, implementing lessons learned, and enhancing controls, we have successfully reduced soil contaminations at our major property locations from nine in 2015 to ZERO in 2020.

Water And Waste Management And Recycling Initiatives

By equipping our team to recognize potential recycling opportunities in waste streams efficiently and incorporating environmental considerations into our product engineering, we've successfully boosted our recycling efforts, minimized ecological waste, and cut operational expenses.

We can reduce our environmental impact by using our performance management system to drive our strategies. Our initiatives have been demonstrating positive results over the last five years, which include a reduction in waste, an increase in recycling, and a decrease in water usage.

By measuring our annual performance, we can set clear objectives in an atmosphere of continual improvement. Since 2015, our initiatives have demonstrated compelling progress.

Regulatory Compliance

A key part of our quest for environmental stewardship is maintaining regulatory compliance in the countries where we operate. To this end, we track the number of regulatory violations globally and remain transparent in our reporting.

To date, Dril-Quip has had minimal violations, and none have caused disruptions to our business execution. Each violation has been investigated, and preventive actions have been put in place. By collaborating with regulatory agencies in countries around the world, we have improved our process dramatically.
